DEPARTMENT OF PANCHAKARMA:
The Panchakarma deals with the basic aims of Ayurvedic medicine to maintain the health of a healthy and alleviate the disease of an ill individual. It stresses upon the preventive aspect by eliminating the aggravated Dosha from the body time to time.
This department renders service to the society by treating almost all type of patients. It extends support to other departments for treating the patients through Panchakarma for mainly Musculo-skeletal, neurological, skin, gynaecological, metabolic, life style, Allergic, Respiratory and Psychiatric diseases etc.
During the academic year, theoretical as well as practical teaching and training of classical treatment therapies in the department of Panchakarma are provided to BAMS students. Besides theoretical as well as practical teaching, training and guidance, the Department also engages students in bed-side clinical classes in Panchakarma.
Panchakarma includes five major treatment modalities named as Vamana (Therapeutic emesis), Virechana (Therapeutic purgation), Niruha Basti (Therapeutic Cleansing Enema), Anuvasana Basti (Therapeutic Oil Enema), Nasya (Therapeutic Nasal instillation of Medicine). Apart from these five main therapies, there are several other internal and external treatment modalities in the Department of Panchakarma for the treatment of vast variety of disease conditions.

DEPARTMENT OF SAMHITA SIDDHANTA.
The Department of Samhita Siddhanta is the department of basic principles of Ayurveda. The learning and practice of the basic principles is fundamental to the school of Ayurvedic medicine.
The department offers learning of original texts and treatises of Ayurvedic science and Ayurvedic medicine in its mother language-Sanskrit. The department offers the study of the philosophical fundamentals of Ayurveda. The name of the department itself asserts that it engages in the learning of basic concepts of diagnosis and treatment. The basic concepts if applied properly and in its right way, lead to the absolute knowledge of ailments; which is applied to the newer diseases, also.
The Department of Samhita Siddhanta offers learning of Sanskrit treatises documented by ancient Indian sage-physicians. As such the department houses, archives and teaches the Sanskrit treatises and texts of the following sage-physicians:
• Charaka
• Sushruta
• Vagbhatta
• Bhavprakasha
• Madhavkara
• Bhela
• Kashyapa
• Haarita
In accordance with the requirement of the BAMS course academic curriculum offered by RGUHS, Bengaluru, the Department of Samhita Siddhanta offers the coverage of the full academic curriculum.
DEPARTMENT OF RACHANA SHARIR.
This department of Rachana Sharir is one of the pre-clinical departments.
The department offers coverage of human anatomy in accordance with the academic curriculum of BAMS course offered by RGUHS, Bengaluru. The Department of Rachana Sharir imparts knowledge of Rachana Sharir and human anatomy to the students of BAMS.
The department enables the learning of anatomy of the human body i.e. study of Sharirsthana, basic texts and treatise of sage-physicians:
1. Sushruta Samhita
2. Charaka Samhita
3. Ashtang Hridaya
Major topics covered in the study of the anatomy of the human body include embryology, histology, anthropometry, genetics and Marma Sharir.
The Department of Rachana Sharir has a preservation tank of the dead human body that is used for the theoretical and practical learning of anatomy and fundamental ayurvedic principles of body, mind and soul. The department also houses dummy models for practical learning of the internal and external structures of the human body.
DEPARTMENT OF KRIYA SHARIR.
Kriya sharir is the basic subject of Ayurveda, which initiates learning of Ayurveda at primary level for the students of first BAMS.
The department offers learning of original texts and treatises of Ayurvedic science and Ayurvedic medicine in its mother language-Sanskrit. DEPARTMENT OF SWASTHAVRITTA and YOGA (PREVENTIVE and SOCIAL MEDICINE)
The Department of Swasthavritta and Yoga primary aim as to preserve the health of healthy individual laid down all the preventive principles which are necessary in maintenance of health under the subject Swasthavritta, which is known as Preventive and Social Medicine or Community Medicine in modern medical science.
The concept of Swasthavritta is pioneer in the field of medicine propagated by our ancient seers and is basic need for building a healthy society.
Department works in domains like personal health, public health, Ayurveda dietetics, Yoga, Nisargopachar and Environmental studies.
Department has come up with Innovative practices like various food adulteration tests, involvement in community activities in nearby villages, conducting morning yoga session for the IPD patients as well as for the publics, organizing various campaigns for the publics in order to create an awareness about Balanced diet and nutrition, diet advice to the healthy individual and patient in OPD as well as IPD basis.
The contents of subject are very helpful to create students, who are able to bring about welfare of the society with the help of science of Ayurveda along with Yogashastra.
The department has Yoga hall. The department develops plans of action to deal with break of epidemics. Various programmes are on the anvil to propagate the outstanding wellness solutions of Ayurveda
DEPARTMENT OF KAUMARBHRITYA
The Department of Kaumarbhritya deals with the diagnosis, prevention and cure of childhood diseases, nurturing mother, and care of mother after delivery thus ensuring better health of both mother and child. Kaumarbhritya or Bal Roga is one amongst the eight branches of ayurveda as described in the ancient treatises. Kaumarbhritya is the science that provides preventive and curative measures from the fertilization of eggs upto the development and growth of children up to the age of 16 years. According to Ayurveda, Kaumar means child of age 0 to 16 and Bhritya refers to care and hygiene. Kaumarbhritya is the backbone of Ayurveda and human sciences. Ayurvedic sages believe that care offered during this period is the spine of the whole life of an individual. Ayurveda considers Dhatri Stanya Dushti as causative factor of diseases during the neonatal life, i.e, in Ksheerada Avastha. The physiological involvement of Dosh, Dhatu and Mala occurs differently in children as compared to adult, thus pediatric care needs utilization of several approaches for the successful treatment and management of early childhood diseases.
Kaumarbhritya is one of the most significant Branch of Ayurveda dealing with the care of the child from the conception to till the maturity It is one of the Eight Branches (Ashtang) of Ayurveda, which deals with both the preventive and curative nursing of both the child and the mother after delivery.
Medicinal knowledge of diseases and treatments described in Bal Roga has been researched and used in diseases with minimum complications and side effects in children. Now a day’s world is spinning to Ayurveda for child health and child immunity related issues and “Swarna Prashana” is well recognized Herbo-Mineral formulation. In ancient India, Ayurveda principally pioneered children disease. Subjects of Swarna Prashana, child immunity, bladder stones, importance and properties of feeding, importance of mother milk, and the mal nutrition induced diseases have been schooled and observed in ancient texts of Ayurveda.

DEPARTMENT OF SHALAKYA TANTRA
The department of Shalakyatantra deals with understanding the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of diseases occurring above the clavicle. Viz. Diseases of eyes, ears, nose, throat, head and neck. Since this branch of ayurveda deals with the most vulnerable and minute parts various specialized instruments and techniques are used for diagnosis and treatment
Shalakyatantra in ayurved refers to that branch of ayurvedic medicine that treats the diseases above the neck and shoulder. It derives its nomenclature from the Sanskirt word Shalaka that means rod or probe. In the southern part of India Shalakyatantra is referred as Urdhwanga Chikitsa. Urdhwanga Chikitsa derives its nomenclature from the two words Urdhwang meaning: the body parts above the shoulder and Chikitsa meaning: treatment.

DEPARTMENT OF KAYACHIKITSA (INTERNAL MEDICINE)
The Department of Kayachikitsa deals mainly with the diseases pertaining to nervous system, musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, urogenital system and skin are managed efficiently.
Kayachikitsa is a specialty among eight branches of Ayurveda that deals with different systemic illnesses affecting the young and old. In ancient times, the practice of Ayurveda comprised of two schools i.e. medicine and surgery.
Departments imparts training in the division of General Medicine in Ayurveda. Kayachikitsa, representing the school of medicine forms the basis for all other branches of Ayurvedic treatment and hence this department lays the foundation for shaping a skilled Ayurvedic physician.
The entire Ayurveda therapeutics is based on the concept of Kaya (Agni), which is unique and is responsible for bio-transformation. This clinical department serve the humanity by promotion of health, rejuvenation and longevity.
Training in this branch of Ayurvedic medicine equips the student to design a treatment protocol comprising of a range of internal and external medications as well as specialised therapies according to the nature of the disease and the patient. Ayurveda offers effective treatment for the management and control of chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriasis, eczema, bronchial asthma, paralysis, early stages of diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, urinary tract infections and certain chronic infections.
Another unique aspect of kayachikitsa is Rasayana (Rejuvenation) and Vajikaran (Aphrodisiac) Rasayana chikitsa is useful for promotion of health and curing enhances the sexual vigour and useful to procreate an ideal Progeny.
The role of mind in the causation and cure of diseases is well recognized in kayachikitsa, hence due importance is given to strict mental discipline and adherence to moral values. For the same postment of manasroga is described in kayachikitsa

DEPARTMENT OF STRI ROGA AND PRASUTI TANTRA (GYNAECOLOGY and OBSTETRICS)
Department of Stri Roga And Prasuti Tantra focuses on a complete care of women from menarche to menopause and beyond. It not only advocates treatment for various disorders in women but also suggests various regimens at each important transitional phases like Ruthumathicharya during the menstrual phase, garbhasamskara to achieve healthy pregnancy garbhiniparicharyas during pregnancy, soothika paricharya after delivery. It emphasise the importance of women’s health as she is the person who is responsible for the next generation.
With the help of well-equipped hospital facilities, Department imparts training in Ayurvedic Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Gynaecology deals with menstrual disorders, diseases of the female genital tract and venereal diseases. Obstetrics deals with conditions related to maternity as well as normal and abnormal delivery.
Major objectives of the department are-
• To promote Garbhini Paricharya (Antenatal care through Ayurveda) through quality teaching and clinical training
• Explore Ayurveda treatment modalities for various Gynaecological disorders.
• To validate pharmacotherapy of drugs and formulations related to Prasuti Tantra and Striroga.
• To implement Standard Operative Procedures (SOP) for various therapeutic procedures related to Prasuti Tantra and Striroga
• To maintain genital tract health, to strengthen reproductive organs there by preventing diseases in reproductive organs of women
• To cure genital tract diseases with appropriate Ayurveda medicines and Ayurveda procedures.

Department includes providing Ayurvedic Medical Care and Treatment for various diseases of female like Anartav( Amennorhea), Artav Dushti (Dysmenorrhea), Asrugdar (Menorrhagia) , Vandhyatwa ( Infertility), Cysts related to Beeja Granthi, Shroni Shoth (Pelvic Inflammation), Rajah Kruchrata (Dysmenorrhea), etc.
The Prasuti Section of the Department provides Ayurvedic Medical Care and Treatment for various conditions of pregnant women like Garbhini Parikshana (Antenatal care), Garbhini Paricharya, Prasav Karma, Sutika Paricharya and Mahila Kalyana.
The Department also performs various Ayurvedic procedures like Uttara Basti (Vaginal, Intrauterine), Kshara Karma, Yoni Prakshalan, Pichu, Anuvasan Basti, Pottali etc. to Female Patients as a part of treatment.
Various surgical procedures are also carried out frequently and contraception like Cu-T is advised to patients for family planning purposes.
DEPARTMENT OF SHALYA TANTRA (SURGERY)
The Department of Shalya Tantra deals mainly with the diseases pertaining to musculoskeletal system, injuries, long standing wounds and ulcers, Anorectal complaints, urogenital system and skin are managed efficiently.
Shalya Tantra is a specialty among eight branches of Ayurveda that deals with different systemic illnesses affecting the young and old. In ancient times, the practice of Ayurveda comprised of two schools i.e. medicine and surgery.
Departments imparts training in the division of Surgery in Ayurveda. Shalyatantra is one of the distinct branches of Ashtanga Ayurveda. Ayurvedic shalyatantra explains and demonstrates surgical knowledge and procedures that were performed and used since thousands of years and are useful even today.
Now a days world is turning to Ayurveda for comprehensive treatment of diseases. Surgical knowledge and treatments of disease described in shalyatantra can be researched and used in diseases with minimum complications and side effects.
Maintained its importance even today, wound healing has imfact gained more importance.
The scope of this department has reached into Orthopedics, Surgery and para-surgical techniques. The main focus of the department is to make the students aware of the fundamentals of surgical diseases, various disabilities and deformities, traumas, fractures, congenital and acquired illnesses etc.
Special techniques of Parasurgical procedures like Kshara Karma, Kshara Sutra, Agnikarma, Raktamokshana, Jalaukavacharana, Siravyadhana etc have been adopted to treat many sufferers. Various research projects on these topics are going on till date under Shalya Department.
